If you go down to the woods today…
There’s nothing scary about a woodland walk at this time of year – the colours and fallen leaves are beautiful (as Carrie, in the main picture above, discovered!). Encourage reluctant little monsters with a conker hunt and you’ve got an easy afternoon of Body Magic for the whole family.
Lisa has lost 4st 5lbs. She enjoys her outdoor adventures with a furry friend. She says:
“Had a non-scale victory today. I bought a pair of walking boots and they fit! I always struggled with my calves, not anymore… and 12 months ago, I couldn’t do up this jacket – today I have it on with a layer underneath!”
What is a non-scale victory?
While it’s always amazing to step on the scales and see the numbers go down, many of our members get an even better feeling from those victories that you can’t necessarily count. Examples could be fitting into something you’ve always wanted to wear, like Lisa, or riding a bike again, like our member below, Vickie. Losing weight will change your life, with so many different wins along the way!
The Halloween scene
There are some fantastic options for outdoor family entertainment at this time of year, including Halloween trails, spooky maize mazes and pick-your-own pumpkin patches (carrying pumpkins and pushing heavy wheelbarrows – like Charlotte – can give you a great workout!).
Child’s play
Remember hide and seek, tiggy scarecrow and skipping games? They’re all fab garden activities that can get your heart rate going. And if the weather outside is frightful, try a trip to the indoor trampoline park, laser tag arena, crazy golf course or bowling alley.
If the sun is shining on your half-term plans, the promise of a park trip can work wonders at getting the kids off their gadgets. Slimming World Consultant Helen is all smiles after exploring Stafford Castle with her family.
Let’s ride
Crisp, dry days are brilliant for a bike ride. If it’s been a while since you were last in the saddle, a flat cycle trail is the safest bet (find local routes on the Sustrans website). With a tasty lunch stop along the way (check out our packed-lunch ideas post), this half-term family activity could lead to a wheely good time!
Vickie has lost over 7st and is thrilled to be back on a bike. She says:
“Non scale victory! Not only have I ridden a bike for the first time in…well forever, I did 4 miles… I never would’ve dreamed I’d be doing this a few years ago…”
In the swim
It’s an energy-burning, body-toning, stress-busting exercise that works every major muscle group without putting pressure on the joints – which is why it’s suitable for so many people. If the kids need a bit more to keep them occupied than just a standard pool, a trip to a waterpark is a real treat – and an amazing option for a drizzly day.
